Wisconsin Proclaims Laryngeal Cleft Awareness Day

LCN is pleased to announce that Oct. 23, 2025, has been proclaimed Laryngeal Cleft Awareness Day in the state of Wisconsin. This marks an important step forward in raising awareness of this congenital birth defect, and we are grateful to Gov. Tony Evers for issuing the proclamation.

The proclamation was requested and facilitated by laryngeal cleft parent Kaci:

“I submitted this proclamation to declare my son’s birthday as Laryngeal Cleft Awareness Day in Wisconsin because his journey embodies both the challenges and the hope that come with this rare diagnosis. Born with a type 4 laryngeal cleft—a condition we never anticipated—he required lifesaving surgery at just one week old, with little certainty that he would survive.

Today, at 2 years old, he is thriving against all odds. As an obstetrician who has delivered countless babies, I knew instantly when I heard his first cry that something was gravely wrong, yet nothing could have prepared me for this journey. By raising awareness, I hope to honor his resilience and ensure other families facing this diagnosis know they are not alone.”

Thank you, Kaci and Yanis, for your efforts to raise awareness of laryngeal clefts. Our community appreciates you!
