Massachusetts Proclaims Laryngeal Cleft Awareness Day
LCN is excited to announce that Jan. 22, 2026, has been proclaimed Laryngeal Cleft Awareness Day in the state of Massachusetts. This marks an important step forward in raising awareness of this congenital birth defect, and we are grateful to Gov. Maura Healey for issuing the proclamation.
The proclamation was requested and facilitated by laryngeal cleft parent Melissa:
“I was motivated to seek approval from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts because many infants and children born with laryngeal clefts are often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. The idea of another family enduring the same uncertainty, fear, and emotional distress that we experienced with our first child affected by a laryngeal cleft was unacceptable to me. The countless moments of confusion, the emotional toll, and the deep awareness that something was seriously wrong without clear answers were overwhelming. For this reason, I am committed to preventing other parents from facing the same experience, and raising awareness in Massachusetts is a necessary and meaningful step toward that goal.”
Thank you, Melissa and family, for your efforts to raise awareness of laryngeal clefts. Our community appreciates you!
