Feeding a Child With a Laryngeal Cleft
By Caetyn Groner, MS, CCC-SLP
Thickening Equipment
Various types of equipment will be helpful in thickening your child’s liquids daily. Some families choose to thicken each bottle or serving at a time. Others prefer to create one batch of liquid for the entire day. Through experience, you will find which method you prefer.
Small Batches:
Formula whisk (similar to a handheld frother)
Blender bottle
Water bottle to shake
Large Batches:
Blender
Immersion blender
Formula pitcher
GelMix Batches:
Individual bottle warmer
Low temperature-capable electric kettle
Hot water in an insulated cup/thermos
Kitchen thermometer
Miscellaneous:
IDSSI-approved syringes
Kitchen scale to measure in grams. This is especially helpful to measure thickener and formula, especially when mixing differently than instructed on the box or can.
