LCI is an independent educational resource founded and published by Carolyn Schultz.

In 2004, Carolyn’s son was born with a type 3B laryngeal cleft. His journey spanned nearly two decades and included numerous procedures and surgeries, including three endoscopic repairs and one open repair.

At the time of his diagnosis, very little information about laryngeal cleft was publicly available. Although educational resources have expanded over the years, Carolyn founded LCI in 2026 to provide a centralized source of evidence-supported information for families and healthcare professionals.

She now draws upon her journalism background and personal experience to translate complex medical information into clear, accurate, and accessible educational content.

Carolyn previously served as co-founder and president of Laryngeal Cleft Network (LCN), where she worked to expand educational resources and support for families and healthcare professionals.
